Statistic Facts According to Arthritis Foundation

By conservative estimates, about 54 million adults have doctor-diagnosed arthritis. Almost 300,000 babies and children have arthritis or a rheumatic condition.

The most common type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, which affects an estimated 31 million Americans.

Number of people expected to have doctor-diagnosed arthritis by the year 2040: more than 78 million.

Doctor-diagnosed arthritis is more common in women (26 percent) than in men (18 percent). In some types, such as rheumatoid arthritis, women far outnumber men.

There are more than 100 different types of arthritis. Arthritis is the inflammation of or damage to the joint. Arthritis causes pain, swelling and changes in the joints that limit movement.

It affects people of all ages. Arthritis can affect the muscles, organs and connective tissues. Arthritis can come on slowly or suddenly.

Researchers don't know what causes most kinds of arthritis. Chances are you or someone you know has arthritis or a related condition. Pain from arthritis can be ongoing or can come and go.

The word means "joint inflammation," but because other structures are also affected, the diseases are often called connective tissue diseases. The terms rheumatism and rheumatic diseases are also used. Besides conditions so named, the diseases include gout, lupus erythematosus, ankylosing spondylitis, degenerative joint disease, and many others, among them the more recently identified LYME DISEASE.

Once you have arthritis, it usually lasts all of your life. However, many things can be done to help reduce pain, increase movement and keep the person active. One of these is to know what to avoid and what to consume that can include in daily diet to lessen the suffering from arthritis. Foods that need to AVOID are include dairy, red meats, wheat, corn, beef, and nightshade vegetables.

Now, let’s focus to the lists of foods that need to CONSUME that can help eliminate the pain of arthritis:

Apple

Research suggests that eating some apple on a daily basis might lower levels of cholesterol as well as C-reactive protein (CRP), a key marker of inflammation in the blood.

In a 2012 study of 160 women ages 45 to 65, half of the participants ate three-quarters of a cup of dried apples every day for a year, and the other half ate a cup of prunes – each 240 calories. Within six months, the apple eaters’ LDL (bad) cholesterol decreased 23 percent, their HDL (good) cholesterol increased 4 percent and their CRP fell 32 percent.

“Lower CRP is better for people with many inflammatory-related diseases, such as [rheumatoid arthritis] and atherosclerosis,” says study author Bahram H. Arjmandi, PhD, chair of Florida State University’s department of nutrition, food and exercise science in Tallahassee.

Almonds

Almonds provide 78 mg of magnesium per ounce, or 20 percent of the daily value. According to the Linus Pauling Institute Micronutrient Information Center, an inadequate intake of magnesium is one possible cause of chronic inflammation.

Nuts are rich in protein, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamin E and immune-boosting alpha linolenic acid (ALA), as well as filling protein and fiber. They are heart-healthy and beneficial for weight loss. Try walnuts, pine nuts, pistachios and almonds. These are great for: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

Cold Water Fish

Cold water fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, herring, anchovies, scallops. A recommend from Health authorities like The American Heart Association and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that three to four ounces of fish, twice a week. Arthritis experts claim more is better.

Some types of fish are good sources of inflammation-fighting omega-3 fatty acids. A study of 727 postmenopausal women, published in the Journal of Nutrition in 2004, found those who had the highest consumption of omega-3s had lower levels of two inflammatory proteins: C-reactive protein (CRP) and interleukin-6.

More recently, researchers have shown that taking fish oil supplements helps reduce joint swelling and pain, duration of morning stiffness and disease activity among people who have rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

You can also take food supplement. Studies show that taking 600 to 1,000 mg of fish oil daily eases joint stiffness, tenderness, pain and swelling.

Eggs

Eggs are rich in protein which means it has expressively increased the levels of tryptophan in the blood. Tryptophan is the building block of serotonin; the brain chemical that both stabilizes mood and boosts pain threshold. Tryptophan also raises endorphin levels in the brain and body!

In addition, foods that are excellent sources of tryptophan include cheese, salmon, and turkey, nuts and seeds, pineapples, and tofu.

Lamb

Eating beef or lamb, as part of a balanced diet, can be a great source of protein and micro-nutrients, including iron.

Arthritis can raise the risk of anaemia, a deficiency of red blood cells, which are essential for carrying oxygen around the body. Symptoms include feeling tired, dizzy and generally listless. In the case of rheumatoid arthritis, anaemia can arise because chronic inflammation in the body and long-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs sap the body of iron.
